Are you One of Them
“ Your present does not define your future but your behaviour does”
Please take a note if you have one of the following symptoms. Maybe you need to consult your doctor before its too late. The characteristics of the disease are as follows:
You show up to work in the morning whining before you even say hello/salam about how busy the traffic is, how the weather is too hot or maybe too cold. You complain about how bad the coffee tastes. Five minutes later, you complain because there is nothing to complain about! Uttering a long “ufff” and transferring all your negative energy to those around you.
If you have one or more symptoms of the above then I’m sorry to break to you that you have an obsessive complaining disorder (let’s call it OCoD to differentiate it from OCD) Those people are known to complain about the same thing to the same people in the same way and sometimes at the same time of the day! They talk about problems and not solutions, agitation and not relaxation and bad behaviour and not manners. Their problems tend to be magnified, making it bigger and more unique than any other similar problem. They demand change without taking any responsibilities, they believe they are the victims of the people, society or even the world without realising that they are, sadly, victims by choice (remember: there are no victim, only volunteers). They blame others for their own imaginative misery. I always wondered if they have ever made a list about their own drawbacks, what would they find?!
You cannot imagine how contagious this disease is, you can spread it similarly to any type of flu. It spreads by air travelling from a complaining person to another, making the whole hospital at the end of the day drained emotionally, mentally and physically. I wonder if you ever came across a person who complains and takes action at the same time! With their negative attitude, they tend to make people unhappy, they ruin your energy, spread gloom and misery. They will be the first to shoot down any new idea, kills your motivation, creativity and innovation. This kind of negative attitude causes mental and physical stress which can lead to heart diseases and ulcers.
The best way to deal with those people is to locate the nearest exit door the moment they cross your path. The truth is, no matter how many solutions you give them, it will never work out because simply their problems are not meant to be solved. Don’t make the big mistake of trying to cheer them up because that means your not taking them seriously. Trust me, run for your life.
I must say that we might fall in the trap of complaining every now and then. Its not that you should not complain at all, sometimes we do it to seek a solution. The difference is that when you positively complain, you need to choose the right time and the right person to discuss it with. Second, focus your attention and energy on the steps you need to take to solve your problem. Finally, before you point fingers, look into yourself and the way you are contributing to either the problem or the solution. Remember: Be thankful, use the power of gratitude.
